For many animal species, we have a fairly good understanding of their ecological niche, including their main diets. For others we don’t – or we can only make assumptions based on related species. Therefore, observations of diets, feeding behavior and other natural history information are important. Niklas Fuchs, Eva Tamargo and Mark-Oliver Rödel now report first observations of feeding events for the Blue-bellied Whiptail lizards (Holcosus bridgesii). They observed lizards feeding on a large ant, a scorpion, a frog, an earthworm and a beetle, and described the way these lizards handled the (partly defended) prey. Their report is published in the journal Herpetological Review as Natural History Note.
